Maroon petrochemical complex was built in a land area of 102 ha in two geographical locations in Kritcamp area of Ahvaz (southwest of Iran), and in the Special Petrochemical Economic Zone at Bandar Imam (BIK). At the Kritcamp unit of Ahvaz, following recovery from natural gas, Ethane is transported through a 95km pipeline to the Olefin unit in Mahshahr Special Economic Zone for Ethylene extraction and conversion into Olefin intermediates for production of different polymers and chemicals as finished products. In addition to the Olefin unit, there are High Density Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Ethylene Oxide and Ethylene Glycol units as well as offsite utilities and services built in an area of 93 ha.
The Olefin unit of Maroon petrochemical complex, which has an annual production capacity of 1,1 million tons, is one of the very few mega Olefin projects operational in the world. Other valuable products of this complex include Pyrolysis Gasoline, Methane and Nitrogen as byproducts. The Ethylene Oxide and Ethylene Glycol units have a total annual production capacity of 443,000 tons. The Polypropylene and High Density Polyethylene units have an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons.
